Hi guys, not sure if ive been given some duff info here.
I recently bought a S2 OTS fitted with a factory hardtop, I noticed it never had a soft top to accompany that underneath.. the guy I bought it from said you either bought from Jaguar the hard top or soft top, u can not fit both, however I’m not so sure.. does anyone have an answer on this..
Thanks guys

Cannot speak for a series 2 but in a series 3 the soft top folds down to the stored position and the hardtop goes on over the top - obviously cannot put the soft top up with the hardtop on
I assume other series are exactly the same.

Exactly the same for the S1 and S2. The idea was you would fold the soft top down in the winter and have the hardtop in place and then, for other seasons, take the hardtop off and then run the car with either the soft top up or down. Sadly, if you are missing the original soft top from your car that is a significant item missing.

Ok Phil.. so just to clarify the soft top would sit under the hardtop so when you remove the hardtop it’s sitting there ready for use?.. I thought as much made a rookie mistake there the only consulation was it was very cheap, which a soft top won’t be !

Correct. The soft top folds down and the hard top is then fitted on top. It uses the same clamping points at the top of the windscreen as the soft top hence the soft top cannot be up at the same time as the hard top is on the car.
If you look at the picture below (found on the web), you can see the ends of the soft top through the rear window of the hard top

Make sure you get the correct clamps that attach to the windscreen when buying a hood. The clips on the hard tops were similar to those used on the S1 hoods, but the clamps on the S2 were slightly different, Barratts used to show both types but not sure if they do now.

Also the stick frame is different on the S2, one less hoop IIRC, and so a different shape when erect.
