Ride Height
#1 Ride Height
I have recently purchased an e-type '73 2+2. Near the front it is only 3" at the lowest point and near the back it's 4" [muffler points]. I read the torsion bar adjustment and front suspension settings and measurement (a) on the diagram on my car is only 6" - the standard setting is 8 3/4". What I would like to know is that if I go to all the trouble of adjusting the torsion bar how much ride increase can I achieve. I need at least 4" clearance at the lowest points to get the vehicle thru inspection to be on the road. I'm from Adelaide, Australia. Thanks for reading.

You can adjust the torsion bars to give you almost any height at the front - just follow the service manual instructions although too high in the front will probably make the car become airborne!. To make adjustment very simple you can fit one of these: http://www.rob-beere-racing.co.uk/suspension.html#react
Bear in mind that if your car has been fitted with modern low profile tyres you will immediately lose up to an 1" of ground clearance. Correct tyres for the S3 should be 205/70 VR15 with a 669mm diameter (Dunlop, Pirelli or Michelin) but the cost per corner usually means cheaper modern alternatives are used which may be smaller. So check those first.

The V12 doesn't have a reaction plate.
There is limited adjustment on the front suspension by way of a cam bolt located on the front end of the torsion bar.
