#1 S1 fhc Cant rail trimming

Post by phoenix » Mon Nov 08, 2021 2:43 pm

Hi I am ready to trim my cant rails and I have the material from a well known supplier. It has one edge with a rubber piping sewn in . Where does this fit . I was going to fit a chrome finisher but is this instead or both shown on finished rail.

It sounds like you have parts of the headlining trim, the material is for covering the roof side support panels. The cantrails are the side window surround crash rolls and are covered in vinyl.

Also Brian IIRC , you asked before about fitting the rear quarter light rubber seals .
The cant rail is fitted before the rear quarter light and both the door and quarter light rubbers .

Hi Bryan

I think you are referring to the side curtains, which are fitted as shown in the photos below. The rubber tube is squeezed behind the cantrail panels and the cloth glued onto the cantrails. I found this to be an awful job but after a weekend's work it turned out half decent.

I think the parts that you refer to are correctly called the cantrail crash padding assemblies and these are fitted to the cantrails after the cloth trim has been fitted. After these are fitted you can then fit the quarterlight hinge pillars, seals and quarterlights etc.

You will note in my photos that I have incorrectly fitted the quarterlights before the crash paddings have gone in. Requiring a bit of re-work.:banghead:

Good luck
Stuart

If you can't make it work, make it complicated!
