But the issue is that the pinion has the correct amount of teeth to my flywheel. The problem is that the starter is positioned incorrectly.
What I do not understand is that I actually started the engine couple of times with this combination, and there was no problem.
Once the engine was in the car I changed the bolts and I guess the starter moved slightly.
So, I guess the offset that is needed is not that great.
However, as Steve said, the fixing bolts could be repositioned somehow, The question is just how to reposition them - especially challenging with the engine in the car.
I would really love to keep the original starter in the car, as I am trying to keep the car as original as possible. However my urge to keep it original stops short of taking the engine out now when everything is assembled...
