Pan, do you have a name? Please add to your signature, it’s much nicer to address you by your name.
Check you registration against the DVLA MOT checker to see what date it shows for first registration. That’ll be a start point.

PAN : you don't need to show anything. On the online renewal form there is a box where you have to declare that the vehicle is over 40 years old and has not been substantially modified from its original spec

Hi...just to clarify...your post is "Road tax exempt" .......but you still have to apply for if each year.....there will be no fee and it should show as Historic if over 40 year old un modified....also over 40 year old is mot exempt....so you dont need an mot to get your tax.......and as Christopher says above just tick the box when you apply on line.....Steve

Your V5C should show the car tax class as "Historic vehicle".
If it still shows the tax class as PLG then the DVLA will expect you still to pay road fund tax.
Then you must register the car as Historic vehicle with the DVLA. I think you do this by submitting the full Vehicle Tax application form which you can get from a post office and on that you declare the vehicle as Historic rather than PLG.

Congrats on your 51-year-old car! If your car is over 40 years old, then it should automatically be exempt from road tax and MOT. You don't need to provide anything to DVLA for this exemption. You should just declare your vehicle as exempt when you get the road tax reminder. However, it's a good idea to keep a copy of the V5C registration certificate in your car as proof. Also, just a heads up, if you're planning to finance your car with a loan, some lenders may require a paycheck stub to confirm your income. It's always better to keep your financial documentation straight. Good luck!
