Hi if anyone is going to solder new bullets on I have found it best to use a small wood batten with a suitable hole drilled to hold it. It means you can hold it steady and insulate it at the same time and better than using pliers etc .

Use some flux and put a bit of solder onto the exterior of the bullet first. The purpose is to make sure your soldering iron has proper contact with the bullet so heat is transferred into the bullet. This makes soldering easy and quick as you then melt some solder into the middle of the bullet and offer up a presoldered wire into the bullet. Job done.

kind regards

I use a wooden clothes peg nailed to a piece of broomstick so that if I need to vary the angle for any reason it’s easy in the vice.the V in the peg has been almost filled in with a chip of wood with a file groove in it.
