The 'E' Type Forum

Folks, bought a rough one, e type, looking for a shop/restoration manual/book, going to need a
lot of help from a book, which one should I buy, keeping price in mind. will add pic.

So many books available. Maybe the one by Chris Rooke who rebuilt a series 2 mostly at home.

The cost of books is nothing in comparison to the cost of spares! There are lots of good books available, some by people that contribute to this forum, such as Peter Crespin.

The Jaguar service manual and spare parts catalogues are essential to have by you throughout. A good originality guide, such as the one by Haddock, which is back in print, is also essential reference material.

The Jaguar manuals are reproduced here on the forum and can be downloaded in pdf format.

As for restoration guides, there are several blogs around with very variable quality of work and presentation and it is always worth getting a cross-fix from 2 or more places.

Finally, this forum is your best friend for advice, guidance and encouragement throughout the process. There is so much skill and experience on offer.

As mentioned above.....this Chris Rooke book is very good.....and will give you a good understanding.....you should be able to find decent second hand copies and check ebay.....Steve

And if you plan to change to RHD there’s a very good write up in the knowledge section.
How much work do you plan to do? All or farm out some to others? If so then be very careful who you use. Companies go bust, do bad work because they don’t understand the E Type and let you down. As Stu says, this forum is invaluable and asking questions here will be a good start as will using the search function.

+1 to that book.

As for your budget, as someone who discovered his Series 1 was riddled with bodged work and rust, I suggest working out what you think is sensible. Then double it and then double it again. Then do the same for timetable…

In the world of investment appraisal, this aims off for the phenomenon known as optimism bias!

Getting to know Chuck and his bodywork panels, advice and you tube posts would be a great start.
