Hi all, I have a few unattached wires on the central dash panel that I’m hoping someone will be able to identify and save me some time
1. There’s a connected pair of Red/light green wires flapping in the breeze on the right side of the panel
2. There are 2 red wires, each with a barrel shaped “connector?” doing nothing at the moment
3. There’s an unattached black earth? cable that connects to what looks like a grouped earth connector. The connected end is shown with an arrow below:
I have a number of electrical items currently not working - horn, interior and panel lights, windscreen washers.
So just hoping someone will know where those loose wires go

I think red/green is rear fog light. I had similar spare on my new loom behind the dash.

3.8 wiring diagram can be found here:

Do you not have the maintenance manual with these diagrams?
Also buy this:

As above, the diags are your best friend. Coventry in particular.
The red/light green are the wiper motor and switch connections.

I’ve only just got on to the electrics, not my chosen subject. Will definitely order up the Coventry book.

And if you haven’t got one already, a decent multimeter - £20 will get one from Amazon. Mine was £15 and is still going strong 5 years on.

Yep I’ve got a old multimeter somewhere in the garage - will have a hunt for it

Yes. There's a takeoff for it on both sides under the dash. Only one of the rear looms is wired for it.
The red wires could be someone's attempt at wiring in a radio, there are no solid red wires in the original loom.
Whatever the earth is for (perhaps a radio), if everything's working it is doing no harm where it is.

Are you sure those are both red/light green, the one looks red/yellow, which would be for front fog lights, connected to a 4 position ignition switch, if fitted.

I’m pretty sure they are red/light green. Here’s a better photo below. It looks to me like they are related to wiper parking and should connect to a red spade connector that goes to the dash switch for the wipers if I’m interpreting the diag in the photo below correctly ?
I don’t have front fogs on the car or any rear fogs. I do have an aftermarket on/off switch near the steering column that doesn’t seem to do anything. Haven’t tested it to see if it’s live.

The red will be yr missing dash/panel/map ligts. When light switch is on thoe loose bullets probably live, not good. Unless the fuse has been pulled ...

Right, it looks like the red/light green wires go to terminal 3 on the wiper switch

So next job is to work out where the two reds with barrel ends go. They look like they might be for instrument or dash lights so I need to check if there are any obvious holes they would fit in

Hmmm, there are no missing locations that i can spot for the 2 barrel connectors waving in the air. As far as i can tell there are 3 barrel connectors to the under panel lighting strip, and a single barrel connector to each of the 4 centre instruments.
According to the wiring diagram the wires to the under dash panel lighting strip should be red/blue, and two are, but the third is solid red, so maybe someone has messed around with the wiring and that’s why I’ve got two redundant (presumably) barrel connectors with solid red wires!
The panel switch also seems to have an additional braided wire to it (colour unknown) that isn’t on the wiring diagram!.
I guess the next stage is to see what has power and what doesn’t - just need to find the multimeter
