4.2 engine sleeving

Hi we had low compression on number 3 cylinder . We have found a groove around the bore about 1/16th deep. Can these blocks be sleeved . Whoever rebuilt must have known. Curiously it has new +20 pistons fitted.Can any one explain this ring.

That could be caused by rust when an engine has not run for years - usually you would have to press the pistons out or cut them up.

The last time I had one re-sleeved was last month. The liners were around £20 each.

It made sense because the block had been taken out too much and was over-size and I had an excellent set of standard pistons.

John Everard did it. No dramas.

Scotts latest video shows an interesting way of fixing the problem for £5 on a Chevy.. I am not sure it will work though, neither is Scot!

Can these engines be sleeved ?

They are already sleeved. So yes they can.

While you're doing it take the opportunity to clear out the water passages at the top.

Use "top hat" sleeves, available from the usuals. This will sort out any cracking (common) at the top of the bores.
