Leaking conrod!

Has anyone else seen this?

I am rebuilding a 4.2 from a 68 OTS that has been standing for many years. I was cleaning the conrod/piston assemblies and noticed that this particular conrod had a tiny jet of cleaning fluid squirting out from the side. On closer inspection, indeed there was a pinhole in the centre channel that takes oil up to the gudgeon pin bush. This would reduce the oil pressure to this bush and accordingly, it is very stiff to rock the piston.

I’ve never seen this before and wondered if this has been seen by anyone else?

Really?? I’ve built quite a few XK engines now and never noticed this before.....but then again, I’ve never had to deep clean the rods like this one. Also, none of the other rods seem to have this ‘feature’

I’m going to have a closer look at the others.

Yes really, but the last XJ rods did away with the little hole and don’t even have the drilling for the gudgeon pin. Even though there is no oil pressure at the pin the bushing fares well. There should still be enough oil splashing around up there.
