Spotted this the other day. It wasn't loose. Obviously over heated.
Cause?
Possibly high alternator output?
Regulator issues ?
It is a Flamethrower coil and ignition with a new direct wire lead from ignition switch which is on a relay and fused at 5 amps ( not the wire just the switch )
I understand that anything over 14.5 volts may over heat the coil
Any advice much appreciated

Maybe an accidental short circuit - screwdriver to earth?

From the pictures it looks like the heat is centred around the connector rather than the whole wire.

To me this suggests that there is poor electrical connection and there has been sparking causing heat.

In the first instance I'd replace the connector with a brand new one and see what happens.

If it does it again, I'm wrong :-)

I agree with Andrew. It's a poor connection and needs to cleaned up and crimped tighter so the spade connection is not loose. If the connection were good, then carrying a too high current would manifest as toasted insulation on the wiring all over and it'd take more than 5amps to do that.

Those crappy little plastic covers you get over the Lucar connectors these days are not made from high temperature plastic. The most likely place you'll see damage like this is on the fuel pump circuit, because of the lack of fusing on the white wire circuits.

Use pliers (gently) on the female spades to make sure they fit tightly on the blades. If you can push it on or pull it off easily - it isn't tight enough.
