His crank case is pressurised. Either worn bore/rings or valve guides.

Always hard to comment on YouTube sound but the engine seems very noisy.

A compression test will reveal the problem.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it ! That is what closed circuit crankcase breathing is supposed to do

That looks pretty smoky to me, although may be a trick of the light....

Andrew : I agree that at the start there is blue to be seen, but it rapidly seems to diminish. We are not told whether this is a cold start, but I have a feeling it may have been . As someone, possibly you, has said, a hot compression test would be revealing

If that is a newly rebuilt engine maybe the rings need to bed down still, but we aren't told if it is. If not that's too much smoke to feed into the intake plenum, it would never get a decent idle without increasing revs.

I've never experienced that with our 3.8 when balancing the carbs with the plenum off the car. In fact, I don't ever recall seeing smoke coming out of it.

Steve, we know this is the best place to learn and benefit on all things E Type.
For those who haven’t the gumption to appreciate or be grateful, well by their own petards let them be hoisted.

A bank holiday ahead, warm weather  time to get your E Type on the road. :swerve:
