#1 Alternator light illumination!!

Post by Paul bow » Mon May 02, 2022 7:56 pm

Hi guys.. electrics I struggle with and was hoping for some help with the alternator light illuminating on the speedo. It’s not bright red like when the ignition is on but prob half as bright as that. The voltage dial is reading about 14/15 volts at idle and doesn’t really move so clearly charging,( fitted with a Lucas a127 55 amp alternator and the auto electrician done away with the 4TR by fitting this alternator, it’s been good for the last 2000 miles..) increasing the revs does not turn the red light out, and battery terminals are good, earth good and Belt nice n tight, so now I’m lost… any idea guys? Thanks in advance 👍

I've had the same problem since I bought my E 7 years ago! Alternator charges, battery fine, so I ignore it. If ythere was a genuine problem, I figure it would illuminate brightly. I know there is a known problem with an electrical component that causes this, but........

Found it!!!! It’s nearly always the simple stuff, a loose wire in the alternator relay on the mudguard.. crimped a new one jobs a good-un!! Result👍
