Working my way through the service items , I got to the section for the front suspension in the handbook and noticed the instruction to grease the top and bottom wheel swivels . I did the top one ok , but the bottom ball joint / swivel doesn`t seem to have a grease nipple . Any idea why this might be ?
Also I noticed there was no mention of the prop shaft in the service schedule . I know there are some UJs , so does this mean it doesn`t matter as much ?

Hi Mark....not unusual for the bottom ball joint to be changed out for the later xj6 "sealed for life unit".... there are grease nipples on some prop uj,s Service manual details grease every 2500 miles... Steve

Thanks Steve - yes , that would explain it , they also look to be slightly different in that they have a rubber sleeve around the joint that is not present in the diagram . The propshaft UJs will have to wait until I have time to raise the car enough to get underneath .

If you have a grease nipple on the propshaft front UJ, then you will find it difficult to access. The only way on my Series 1 FHC is through a large rubber bung underneath the lift up piece of carpet on the left of the tunnel - just behind the other large bung for the gearbox oil level. There is no access from below.

I've always struggled with this as the straight grease nipple means it's very hard to get a grease gun anywhere near it. I wonder if other people have an angled nipple on this UJ? Recently, I bought a BGS Technic 9403 right angled fitting for the grease gun that allowed me to get in and do it without issue - mind you, it was not easy to get the fitting off the grease nipple and it needed quite a shock to free it. These UJs seem to get neglected during a service as they are hard to get to.
