The 5 Speed is here……..

Excellent choice and there are 3 choices of thickness and flexible sponge material.
The old silver foil with the rubber dumb dumb was heavy, thick and impossible to move or remove.
The new stick tape is great.
Once your in a new car, you begin to HATE the vibrations and noises, it just kills it.....

In addition you could use the stock BD27833 foam in the gearbox cover:
It is just 2" upholstery foam (about $5 from an upholstery shop) which you can carve to shape with a bread/carving knife and goes into place after the gearbox has been fitted and before the top cover..
Under the tunnel, DEI reflective aluminium is perfect:

I was asking about the original foam.......But thinking it really traps alot of heat?
Just my thought.

Basically you need to deflect as much heat as possible away from the cabin. First barrier is the DEI honeycomb foil under the tunnel to reflect heat away (you could use dynamat equivalent) and reduce conducted heat via the metal work. Of course you have a whopping big hole in the tunnel which will not be covered and heat will be radiated upwards and airflow whilst the car is moving will force the hot air (plus fumes) through any gaps. So the second barrier needs to be the foam which you stuff around the gearbox from inside the car. Reattach the fibreglass top cover and the silicone/rubber boot and you should have a good sealed cabin. If in doubt run a bead of silicone around the top cover and boot.
SNGB sell the foam but at $43 plus shipping you may want to consider making your own!

HI there, following your post and just thought to offer some hints having installed a Guy Broad box last winter into my Series 2 FHC.
As you have to raise the engine and gearbox at an angle I found removing the oil breather and studs from the cylinder head it gave just enough room to clear the picture frame to raise the engine and gearbox at the necessary angle. I did use a load leveller to control the lifting process safely, kindly ignore the chaos on the garage floor in picture 2 as I was working on my own and taking photos in real time.

Chris
Did you have the crank pulley on or removed as well?
Thanks again for the pictures.
Also we’re you able to get the prop shaft bolts from underneath or up top?
Gtjoey1314
Or what I’m asking ….
I connected the rear prop shaft first
Do you loosen that and do the front then slide in and line up the rear?

Hi there,
Quick reply as I'm heading off to Silverstone for the Classic weekend.
Did you have the crank pulley on or removed as well - no can stay on as it did not interfere.
Also we’re you able to get the prop shaft bolts from underneath or up top - put prop into tunnel and fully bolted up to the front end from the top first, as the gearbox was raised into position. The rear end can be easily reached once the gearbox is in place.
Note, front prop UJ has a grease nipple fitted with a little plastic cap, make sure this is firmly in place as you cannot reach it once the prop is in place. I spent a day trying to track down the ticking noise coming fron the gearbox as I ran it through the gears the ticking increased with prop speed and turned out to be this little cap just hitting the side of the tunnel!!!

Thank you my friend!
I understand completely!
I hope I can wrap this up next week or so…
CJ created a new drive shaft with SEALED u joints so there’s no grease nipple
One issue solved
After family doctor/senior issues I’m back on it!
Thanks my friend
Gtjoey1314
Almost forgot did you cut the cross member?
Enjoy Silverstone
Another wonderful event

Regarding sealed for life UJs. Would you like to see one that had reached its end of life? I can't say how old it was, but it wasn't pretty.
I fitted grease nipples to mine. They get a squirt or two of grease once a year, whether they want it or no.

Chris I understand and Thank You!
I’m looking at my life time table…..
I think I should be good
It’s so tight when this job is done that it would be easier pulling the rear in ten years
And bang out new u joints
Having fun with you but everytime I go to new products like sealed ball joints , serpentine belt,
1 wire alt and a 123 dizzy
I leave behind 99 other headaches
Love

Amen to that Joey. I too have installed the high torque starter, 123 Ignition distributor, Ron Davis aluminum radiator and electric fan with thermostatic Hayden switch, SNG ceramic exhaust headers, single bottle brake/clutch fluid reservoir, etc and I love leaving the problems behind and increasing the safety and relaiblity of a 53 year old car.

Thank You Bob couldn’t agree more!
Today I had to take my Dad to doctor for Vertigo while my Mom is slipping the banana peel.
All this with my mother in law with US for the last 25 years….
So today in between My long time friend started a new charity for kids with severe disabilities
We make our contribution and take kids for rides or sit in the car!
A nice day to put things in perspective
Hopefully we can have the transmission done in the next week or two….
Enjoy!

HI gtjoey,
Answering your earlier question, yes I did "modify" the cross member but I also removed some of the redundant casting material on both sides at lower end the gearbox see attached. The actual clearance is greater once the rear bracket is attached (but then you can't see the Xmember to take a photo)

Joey,
Not sure what you are trying to post, but it doesn't appear, for me at least. If it's a long URL
you might want to check out tinyurl.com which will provide you with a very short link for overly long/complex URLs.
If it's a photo, you may need to reduce the photo size to below 2Meg.
