My father is going to live!!!
Cat scans , MRI and an enema lead to one conclusion

He needed attention because my mother won’t listen to him🙄
So as we jump back in here is the replacement bracket
I like it very Aston and better quality than the original I also like the way two bushings take the vibration not a single spring

Thank you Yes it is for about 2 weeks
Once everyone stops paying attention to him next will come tuberculosis then gout then prostrate.
I think we all understand🤣
Well I prepped the engine but my buddy is coming back next week
I cleared the rear but cannot drop the car or the front pulley will hit
So I need him to jack up the back and then I’ll slide the engine back a little at a time also clearing the ears with those damn torsion bars!
Image
Ps the front breather and studs plus water pump studs all out to make as much room

Ellie loves it
I don’t drink
Have to stay lean😀
This car along with the Etype is what Jaguar is totally missing, the women loved it everywhere we went .
Let everyone sit in it and take pictures plus the ride is so comfortable without being a mark x.
Remember this car has a 4.2 with Etype triple carbs❤️

How about we REANACT the same photos when the 5 speed is done!
That would be nice comparing the revs and gas and people .......
Should be close as the MK2 has the GM700R , THAT TOTALLY TRANSFORMS THE CAR.

Okay
Here we go almost ready need some thoughts!
First before we put in the transmission
1. The support bracket for the E brake was REAL close to the prop shaft.
On other 5 speeds most have to be cut out .
Shhhh they don’t tell you till
It’s in and rubbing.
So even though it’s ok I’m rolling it forward with the hammer and dolly please look
Without Cutting anything
Just massaging , I will be at peace

It’s now flush to the tunnel without loosing strength the the front bracket

Next…..
I have had 3 Etypes over 35 years putting hundred of thousands of miles and always had this little tab
What does it hold? Old Shields?
I think it’s time to remove this as well?
Thoughts?

I couldn’t sleep😀
I rolled back the clip to under the frame
So last recap
To get the guy broad box in
1. Shorter prop shaft is a must
2. The transmission is really cleaned up with all excess material removed
3 . e brake handle bracket rolled back for more prop shaft clearance
4 bottom clip rolled back for max side to side clearance
Now we just need to get the engine up and in!

Replace those crusty studs with ARP stainless ones! Then use long brass nuts. Never again a seized nut.

I find the bronze (brass?) nuts come loose frequently. I assume this is due to the difference in expansion rates of the steel and bronze. The SPC says plain washers should be used but even with spring washers in place I will ultimately hear the nuts pining down the underside of the body. This is because the spring washers lose their tension when exposed to the high heat of the exhaust at the manifold.

The solution I came up with in the end is to use Nord-Lock washers which use wedge locking and tension instead of friction to secure bolted joints exposed to severe vibration and dynamic loads. You can tighten the nuts but the the washers will not allow the nut to come loose unless enough torque is used to overcome the wedge lock. They are a use once item as undoing breaks the wedges and are available in metric and imperial sizes along with a choice of materials - I used the standard plated version. https://www.nord-lock.com/nord-lock/products/washers/

My issue here is I’m not in the mood to crack a flange and need new manifolds again.
I agree even with the brass they were coming loose.
So every 5 months or so I would put it on the rack and tweek
Heuer what size are those washers?
I will wire these down and try the new washers
Thanks guys
A great thread

There is no room to be able to correctly wire the nuts (I tried) hence my search for an alternative. The Nord-Lock I used are 3/8" IIRC but worth checking the stud size before ordering. They are widely available in the USA. This illustrates how they work:
Image

My experience suggests:

1. The cheaper zinc plated Nord-Locks can only be used once as the heat affects hardness but they will not allow the nuts to move when they are in place. Once removed replace with new Nord-Locks each time

2. The more expensive stainless steel Nord-Locks can be used repeatedly but are five times the price of the zinc plated steel. Use them if you intend to regularly remove your down pipes.

3. The nuts will require torquing up after two hot/cold cycles but after that they should remain tight.

4. There appears to be no advantage to torquing the nuts up when the engine is hot.

5. The zinc plated Nord-Locks are a 'use once' washer in this application. In other areas, not subject to extremes of heat, they can be used multiple times.

This could be another neat option:

Available via eBay not cheap but highly regarded. They would also be excellent to replace the manifold to head studs which also come loose. This is the 'stud' version:

Final touches before the install
1 after any last welds to close up the seams
2. Sand down to make uniform
3 Liquid Cement Black
This stuff is wicked bonding glue it gets in all the cracks and seals everything!
Tomorrow I will put a shot of undercoating and we are done!
