Hi All. The clutch master cylinder is leaking and needs replacement. An attempt has been made (by others) to fit a seal kit, but this has been unsuccessful. The current unit has the fork (which attaches to the clutch pedal) swaged onto the actuator rod, so is it recommended to replace like with like? I see some master cylinders for sale with a plain actuator rod. All advice gratefully received!
Phil.

What you do is reuse your old actuator rod in the new cylinder.

#3 Re: Series 3 Clutch master cylinder replacement
Hi Andrew. Thanks for the feedback. I have removed the clutch master cylinder and stripped it down. The actuator rod is retained by a circlip and has a domed head where it mates with the clutch hydraulic piston. Assume all aftermarket items are of a similar design?
A previous attempt (another outfit) has been made to fit a new piston seal (and dust seal) which has proved unsuccessful. Examining the bore shows it to be smooth and free of scoring, although there is heavy pitting/corrosion in the 6 o'clock position at the end of stroke where general debris will have settled. This was the likely cause of failure.
Thanks, Phil.
