#1 Body blanking plates?

Post by Wadders » Fri Jul 29, 2022 11:36 am

Hello all, and thank you in advance for any help you might offer.

I am restoring a Series 2 1970 FHC and am getting closer to the end than the beginning. It is close to going to getting upholstered and I have started to notice a lot of holes in the shell that will need to be filled. I am not worried about the smaller ones, but there are a few large holes towards the rear of the cabin (shown in the photo below if the attachment has worked).

I wonder if anyone could say definitely whether these were filled originally and what with? Was it metal and were there gaskets? Or if anyone could offer advice as to what would be best to put there now - I am probably going to cut some patches out of sheet aluminium and use some screws/sealant to close them up.

Again, many thanks for your help. I have found this forum to be invaluable over the last seven years bringing the car back to life.

Nick

Hi Nick,

1. Just left empty
2. Cubby box goes there
3. Rear hatch opening mechanism goes there
4. Should be a trimmed cover (vinyl)

Hope this helps.

Nick, further to Simon’s comments, some are access holes to allow you to get to various parts on the car, eg the fuel pump at four. Two gives you access to adjust the rear quarter light angle, and it’s important not to just fit the quarter light without being totally happy with the fit of the doors and window frames or you get the door windows not in line with the rear quarter light frame.
