David - you're quite right, they were R5 racing tyres. And IIRC it was Charles Bulmer who gave the account, and he was not the editor but the road test team chief of , I think, Motot. BTW, for those who think that the magazines massaged results, others may have done so, but the British leading magazines were renowned for their probity and accuracy ( and I was around, and driving, at the time ) .

Hi, after your interesting comments and after a drive with a 3.07 differential (4.2 - 1 series) and with a 2.88 (4.2. - 1 series 2+2), I make a decision. I prefer 3.07 differential and I decided to change to that ratio.
Now I need to update speedometer.
Is it possible to change gears to transform a 3.31 speedo in to a 3.07?
I found these gears on ebay (see image) but I'm not sure they are right for me.
Do you know anyone who sells gears or does the work?
Ciao

Giovanni, Speedograph Richfield: http://www.speedograph-richfield.com/ and Speedy Cables: https://www.speedycables.com/ can both do the work for you. Clean up, recalibrate and put the correct dial face on for you.
