Expansion tank broken
#21 Re: Expansion tank broken
Its so D TYPE ish........and goes so well with the curve of the bonnet.
Dont over fil it as the pressure will push out the fluid from the overflow tube.
Only go a hair less than half.
You will love it.

Very nice.
Apparently you took the polished tank.
The version with satin finish may also fit quite well with "used" cam covers.
Did you ask for a lateral/front boss to accept your original otter switch and/or did you install a modern fan switch? (a pic of the front side may be useful)

I don't use the otter switch so I fabricated a suitable aluminium blanking plate to so there is not much to see on the front. As far as ordering the polished tank, a: that was the only and last one I found in stock with multiple suppliers and b: it suits the rest of the components on the engine bay. I am sure in time it will loose some of its sheen....
You should ave seen the junk tank it replaced, not only that it had two pin holes on the top, it was all rusty inside and when I emptied the remaining coolant some flakes of rust poured out of it. I implore restorers to avoid those after market steel tanks as the will not last.

Those are very very nice. I’d consider one too if i needed one.
But are stock configuration tanks in brass NLA?
I bought one 20 years ago, painted in stock hammertone. Performed very well, no corrosion problem.

I guess those work as good especially if you want to keep the 'stock' look. On this forum most of the recommendations went the Ali way so I went for it.

#31 Re: Expansion tank broken
I had supposed the standard tank in brass (also available in aluminum and stainless from various suppliers) would be quite a bit cheaper than the alternate styled tank shown. They are somewhat cheaper but no huge leap.
Now I wish i had bought a steel tank so it was rotted out and I could justify one of these! Like em a lot.
