This is my 1st post. I have a 1969 series 2 OTS with a Hi Torque starter motor. The motor turns over quickly when I turn the ignition key but does not engage. There is power from to relay to the solenoid. I’ve rocked the car backwards and forwards in gear to move the flywheel but it makes not difference. I would welcome suggestions as to what to do next. This is the first time?
Or has it worked before?
If its the first time , you might have to remove the SPACER.......

And, if this is a new installation, remember that a starter for 3.8 won't work on a 4.2.

Thanks for the replies. It was working before, just recently stopped engaging on the flywheel.

Pull the starter motor out and test it on the bench....if it spins without throwing out its a starter problem...Steve

What he said...........pull it out see if the edge of the teeth are worn on the starter gear, you might have been too far out and now worn away.
If so get new starter, remove spacer plate. could be your bolts are just loose too?
good luck

Thanks for the advice. I’ll bench test it and measure the throw the solenoid produces.
