Looks like an excellent head. Bet it costs about as much as a wide angled C&G head though. If money were no object, I would have a go.
Getting large power pout of an XK engine is expensive. My opinion on the diminishing returns of power vs money spent is 300 bhp on a fuel injected 4.2. That is around £10k-£12k on engine parts, ancillaries, machine shop time and workshop time. Bear in mind that my local rolling road had never seen more than 220bhp from the flywheel from a healthy standard XK on triple SUs.
That seems about as much as the suspension brakes and frame want to take without a whole heap of modifications. Any more and you open up a whole new level of financial pain and you might create something more suited to the track without some development.
Just a steel crank and C&G head with forged pistons is around £40,000 in parts alone. Grant Williams in BUY 1 makes it all look worthwhile I must say. He really gives his cars some punishment.
I am just about to re-sleeve a 4.2 to 4.5, we will see how that goes the boys that do it for a living like to keep the parts numbers to themselves, but we have some old parts books for cross referencing.
I have just finished this heritage throttle bodied 4.2. It is not tested yet, however it fired up at the weekend and sounds very fruity indeed.
These guys seems to have found a very cost effective way of increasing the output of an XK, by adding a turbocharger. It seems to suit the engine well. Maybe a bit radical for an E type?

That engine spec looks fantastic, are those 45mm ITB’s, I’m just embarking on a similar build, no wide angle head couldn’t stretch but full of other goodies

Cool stuff guys…..
I gather we are all about the same age.
New cars are a bore too me.
I’ve had them all but they have the warmth of a dentist chair.
The head in 12 plug and dizzy is pushing now 20 grand U.S.
It’s a bit much
He has 6 plug version using your 123 dizzy but still 14 grand.
I’m having fun at the 5 speed and adjustable suspension is such a pleasure!
I’m pm ing Heuer as the Throttle kit will be a nice winter project

Keep it coming guys

I have posted elsewhere that Joey would be an ideal candidate for the E-Torque head upgrade. He has an analytic approach and a “get it done attitude”.
