Which way round should the rubber grommets be fitted in the floor. Dome side up or down ?

I don't think it really matters , but for neatness I personally feel it is better to have them dome side up . I think also that it probably provides better sealing against moisture, although it is marginal

I don't think it matters either but, on the basis that you don't see them once the carpets are fitted, I fitted mine with the domed side visible from the underside of the car (sorry, Christopher).
I also put a smear of Tiger Seal or similar around the hole before I fitted the grommets, just in case the grommets are not as good a fit as they should be.

I agree. Stops them getting filled with road grime.
