series 1.5 long/short stud on block

Folks, block apart now time to remove studs, I scanned the logs here and it seems the s2 have the
'long' studs, does that mean that my s1.5 studs do NOT go into the water jacket and they may
come out easier. and I would guess that locking two nuts on topof stud is the way to remove? should i
heat the block a little with a torch?? any tips on removal?? Thanks Mike.

You should be able to tell just by looking (with the head and gasket removed) whether the studs are long or short. Long stud blocks will have a discernible space around the stud where it passes through the top deck surface. Double nut will work fine for short studs, but do a search of the archives for tips about evaluating long stud condition and how to best remove them based on condition.

That you have a so called S1.5 (a distinction which was never used by Jaguar) is not indicative of which type of block you have, as the cutover from one type to the other occurred about the time your car was being built. Someone will likely chime in with more definitive information about when this change occurred, and perhaps they will specify the chassis or engine number for the change.

I thought it was a bit easier to tell the difference between long and short stud blocks, as the earlier short stud blocks just have three large core plugs on the side and the later long stud blocks have five large core plugs along the block side ?
