Ready to install engine 67 fhc, no exhaust or intake on block, head on, I watch two video, both
had torsion bars off, when car was stripped, I marked exactly where the bars were set, they are now
installed, like before this job started, can I assume I can install from bottom with the bars still on??
hate to remove them (one step forward and two steps back??) thanks Mike.

As long as the reaction plate is off it will work.

The torsion bars can be in place. Here is a couple of pictures from my bottom installation.

Without doubt the best method is to insert the engine and box from below but as mentioned earlier the reaction plate has to be removed first. Not wishing to loose the suspension settings, I made a couple of shafts to be inserted in place of the retention bolts. Nothing complicated just a good fit for the diameter of the bolt and approx. 2" or 50mm long with a larger diameter (knurled finish) to allow fitting and removal. This makes it safe and impossible to loose your suspension setting. If needed I can supply a photo and dimensions for this shaft, cheers John in UK.

I have not got the use of a ramp so i used an engine crane instead . It is quite easy as you can take time positioning the engine as I had the engine and gearbox on a four wheeled dolly. Just take your time and keep checking clearance . I did this on my own and I am most senior.

You can install the engine from the bottom with all the suspension intact, there’s not an awful lot of room but a bit if juggling it’s an easy job .. I’ve just done it that way myself using only a trolly Jack, I did first have the engine on a skate which helped no end in getting it under the car and in position..

Installed mine that way, had the engine on a dolly & hoisted the front of E up by a steel beam in my garage using a chain block. Took less than an hour.
