#1 xke 67 fhc distributer to xj6 (worth it??)

Well, I was told I need an amplifier if I wish to change my old points dist to my xj6 dist.
Looked on ebay for an amp thinking thee would be lots of these units around, HAH, found only one and it was new for around $200.00 u.s. funds plus taxes and shipping, what does this amp really do? I was told I can
use the old coil, so no improvement in spark I would guess, I never rev over 5000 rpm, points are
cheap, and I only will driver a few hundred miles a year. so what I am missing?? why do people switch over to the newer type?? Mike.
