#1 rear engine mount 67fhc (adjustment??)

Post by autoalain » Tue Mar 07, 2023 10:11 pm

Well, cleaned the rear engine mount and removed all hardware, just installed engine and do not know
how much to adjust it, is there some sort of guideline on how much to raise the rear of engine, thanks Mike.

Just a NOTE, I mean the mount at firewall and NOT the transmission mount

Mike,

It's in the manual, but here's a quick overview:

Assuming you have all of the parts assembled in the correct order (see the parts manual), you start with the top locknut and stepped washer removed, then using a long screw driver you wind the lower slotted/stepped nut upwards (you mounted it slots up, yes?) using the screwdriver in one of the slots until said nut just nips up snug against the bottom of the rubber insulator that is mounted in the firewall bracket. Once the bottom nut is snug, then install the top stepped washer and nylon locknut and you're done.

You aren't trying to raise or lower the engine here, just to stabilize it. You definitely don't want to raise the rear of the engine using the stabilizer assembly as too much load on the stabilizer bracket can cause fatigue cracks in the firewall over time. If the engine height or angle needs adjusted for any reason, then do so at the transmission mount and/or forward engine mounts. Make sure the stabilizer is fully slackened when moving the engine about, then adjust as above once the engine is in it's final resting place. (may it rest in peace)

Mike, it's less about the manual, more about the 40 years I've owned, maintained, repaired, rebuilt, and upgraded S1 E-types. I still feel like I have a lot to learn.
