Post by mgcjag » Fri Dec 10, 2010 6:43 pm

Hi All.....Whilst the IRS is removed (currently refurbing it) had a scrape around to remove loose underseal/rust, etc & run a wire brush over the fuel pipe that runs over the IRS it almost immediatly sprang a leak, question the pipe is steel....any problems replacing with kunifer? also what size? Thanks. Steve

Shouldn't be any problem replacing with kunifer - just measure the pipe you remove. They are available as a complete (2 part) assembly though. Best of replacing it all the way through if the back part has gone (remember to keep the original as a template though).

Hi Steve,

When I replaced mine (series 1 OTS lightweight replica) I used 3/8" copper. I wanted to be sure there would be plenty of fuel would feed the webbers
Also using 3/8" copper on the C-Type Replica I am building
Kind Regards John

I'm just in the process of replacing some of my fuel pipe on my 1969 2+2. It is 5/16" outer diameter if that helps.

Cheers

I'm afraid we are not very knowledgeable about XJ6 on this forum which is only dealing with E types. You would be better asking the question on Jaglovers, although again that deals mostly with older cars than the XJ40 series

The Jag-lovers forums deal with pretty much any Jaguar, it's just that pending a software revamp they have stopped making new forums for specific models after about 2003.

Your XJ40 code is from the last system Jaguar used before they switched to the modern on board diagnostics. The Vehicle Condition Monitor (VCM) does a similar job but is not as sophisticated. Fuel Fail 14 means your coolant temp sensder is dud, which will probably cause rich running. Cheap enough to fix. Go to www.jag-lovers.org and look up the XJ40 web forum and maybe look in the archives first.

As it happens, your car's fuel lines may be aluminium, not steel. They certainly were later in 1994 when the X300 came out. Brake pipes were steel if that's what you mean?

Hi David,
Seasons greetings!!... What's a 'Troll'?
I take it 'Summerscheifer' is in fact 'Winterscheisser' or does my school German let me down? 8)

Hi Harry

"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. In addition to the offending poster, the noun troll can also refer to the provocative message itself, as in "that was an excellent troll you posted". "
