Seat Belt Rattle

I fitted some 3-point seatbelts, the lower mounts of which fit into eye-bolts. This is a metal-metal contact and a source of incessant rattling when on the move.

Is there a simple way of preventing this? The design of the belt parts of the mounts precludes the use of a split grommet (due to the intrusive locking tab which opens inwards), and the closed eye-bolt seems impossible to cover effectively, without dipping in a polymer of some sort. Further to that, I don't want a significant amount of rubber between the eye-bolt and the shackle anyway, since it could deform under a high load, and may conceivably be the difference between an injury or not.

Simple fix....tighten your belt a bit ......i couldnt think of anything else. ....your seat belt rattles. ..its not really technical. ....or gaffa tape.......im sure someone will come up with a better solution.....Steve

I suppose I could admit defeat and un-tighten the remains of my stomach muscles. That would have the same effect.

I used cloth fabric tape on the eyelets, from the usual outlets/auction sites.

Or a thin layer of self amalgamating loom tape.

Thanks for that - good idea. TBH I assumed they were the same things. I ordered some fabric self-amalgamating tape from Amazon just now.

Seat belts, manufactured by Britax and supplied by Jaguar, were attached to grey plastic coated eye bolt anchorage points and each one had a spiral bound wire with a lead seal from the Factory. The seal is stamped “Jaguar” on one side and “FW/M 229A” on the other. FW/M 229A is a Jaguar part number which refers to the eye bolt (although I cannot find a reference to it in the SPC). These, along with the required fittings and the belts, were supplied as a complete kit for Dealer installation.

If you want to replicate it you can use grey Plasti Dip available from Amazon as either a spray or brush on can. The layer is thin enough not to interfere with correct operation but prevents rattles; it can be re-applied easily if it wears off:

On my new belts (supplied by Quickfit), the lower rectangular loops that the belt are stitched around is plastic dipped (presumably to protect the nylon), but not the eyebolts.
