Nice morning today so had the old girl out, ran well (about 10 miles) until I stopped to talk to someone for about ten minutes, left her running (in neutral) when I got back in and engaged D1 she stalled and would not restart :shock: . After about ten minutes of trying she started but runs very lumpy, little power on first dab of accelerator but gets better if you pump it :( .

Some background:
1. I do have a problem with the fuel pump i.e. it needs a gentle tap when the car is cold. I have a new electronic one in the garage and will now fit this. Could this be causing the problem :?:
2. Over the last month I've had the radiator out and re-cored, reinstalled it this week with new coolant/anti freeze and seemed okay, no leaks etc.

I have heard of an overheating coil causing similar problems and given you have had the radiator out I would suspect either wires to the coil (make sure they are not arcing to the nearby metalwork) or the coil itself. After ten minutes of sitting right above the rad it will have got very warm and maybe started to break down. Allowing the car to stand for 10 minutes or so would have brought things back in range. Do you have a spare coil to try?

Fitting the electronic pump is a good idea anyway.

Thanks again David for your ever useful advice. :D
Took her out again yesterday, as the above had been niggling me. She started fine and was running okay too, pulled out of the garage and noticed a small pool of coolant on the drip tray :shock: . Lifted the bonnet and had a check round, it was then I noticed a small drip from the top hose (engine end), it must have worked loose when disconnecting the radiator end. The drips were falling onto the distributor and I believe this could have caused my issue. :D

I think at last I have traced the fault. The Series 2 distributor has a LT cover with lead attached and I discovered the lead in the dizzy to be stripped and down to a few threads, I have no idea how it kept running to be honest. Fitted a new one and took it for a nice long drive and all seems okay. :D
