I understand the rack of the V12 is mounted using distance tubes on the two safety bolts to the pinion side and the two bolts on passenger side have no distance tubes, so unless I am missing something obvious (highly likely), why do both SNG and Robey's indicate the need for four of the distance tubes?

Hi Steve,
You are correct, it does show 4, as do SNG & Robey's, but I can't understand where the 4 of them fit as they are only fitted on the pinion side and there are two on that side so where do the other two go?

4 safety bolts 4 spacers according to the parts catalogue......i havent fitted a S3 rack....why are you saying that only 2 should be used on the pinion side.....Service manual dosnt give full detail but reading it sounds to my like 4 are used....Steve

Just to add there is no indication in the service manual that the 2 sides are mounted differently....unlike the S1/S2 cars.....Steve

Ahhh!
I think you have cleared that up for me, and looking closer at the service manual I think you are right, the spacers do look to be used on both sides on the S3.
I had assumed they were the same as the S2(you know what they say about assuming)
Cheers Steve

Cheers Bob,
Glad I asked the question now.
Although I never understood why they were ever different I wonder what made Jaguar change to having them same both sides?
