#1 Head studs

What's a reasonable time interval before you'd expect to have to change the head studs on a 4.2, that go down through the waterways. Is 20 years after a rebuild reasonable. Assuming of course they were done at that time.

How long is a piece of string....unless you have photo evidence of the "new studs" being installed....and regular use of proper coolant then they should be ok for many years....there are many original unbuilt engines with uncorroded studs....there isnt a time intetval to replace studs.....if rebuilding the engine then yes otherwise leave well alone.....you can pull the coreplugs and inspect though......Steve

If you're rebuilding the engine then all head studs should be replaced with new ones.
If you're asking if they need changing as a service item after a certain period then no. Removing long stud motor studs carries significant risk of thread damage on the block and really shouldn't be attempted.
