#1 sound proofing above the gearbox

Hi, is there supposed to be any sound proofing on the gearbox cover inside the car?
My series 1 2+2 has traces of felt /glue but none of the felt kits I have seen seem to cover this area. I do remember reading something a while ago about ensuring that the felt is not to thick in this area so that the radio consul is not raised too high so the centre section of the dash does not catch as it is swung down.
Thanks
Steve

There's a big wad of foam that sits on the top of the box and provides nesting for mice.

I usually put some Dynamat inside the tunnel itself, and inside the cover.

As you say you need to make sure you don't interfere with the console fixing.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know of the foam below the transmission tunnel. Is there anything which glues to the top of the gearbox cover inside the car ?

I leave the top painted.
