Lucas washer bottle connector picture please

Could someone please be kind and send me a close-up snap of the electrical connector for the washer bottle pictured? Can’t find anyone that doesn’t sell them as part of the whole unit, which is unnecessary. I’m hoping to find something suitable in an electronics store or online.

I assume you mean the brushes, these being the part that usually fails? I tried to find these last year and gave up, and bought the whole part minus the bottle.

Not really, Darryl. I mean the entire connector, that attaches to the outside of the bottle. The plastic/rubber cover perished on mine and now I have exposed brushes that I've wrapped in insulating tape. Perfectly functional but a bit ugly and not going to help me win any shows.

This appears to be an original connector on a LHD 12 Oct 1965 built car.



It looks to be the same on this LHD 27 Apr 1966 built car.

Steve, you reminded me that I was working on 3D printing this part a little while ago - I like to copy appropriate plastic components on my car, when I get the opportunity. I can finish working on this, as soon as I get some Lucar connectors with the locking tabs, which are needed to fit inside the plug. I don't believe anything like this is still available (at least I never found one when I was searching). Image shows original on the left, 3D printed version on the right. On my car it's mounted on a fairly short flying lead that has 2 male spade connectors which join the harness on the bulkhead.

My car cable already has the correct connectors in place so should make the fitting of the plug straight forward.

They're unlikely to be cooper because copper has very low resilience and won't hold it's shape for any length of time. More likely to be phosphor bronze or maybe even beryllium copper. I doubt either would be available new these days due to cost constraints.

That's sounds like a dumb way of doing things. 4 extra connectors and 6 extra points of failure. Why not just build the connector into the loom?

Ok, so responding to a couple of points - the connector on my car has been there from new, and the Lucar terminals certainly 'appear' to be copper rather than brass. However, I have no way to know for sure. Anyway, I just mention it for interest, and it's not really important. Image shows original broken connector on my car vs new shiny brass version.

With regard to the fact that I had a short lead from 2 terminals on the loom - I have a new loom now, but it was just the same on the old one. Again, no idea how it 'should' be, but it works just fine.

I do know that original spec for my series 2 was with the black cover over the 2 terminals, and whilst I still have my original, I can also re-make these, since they seem impossible to find. I'm sure they are actually intended for another application, but they work ok, and nice to have if the original look is of concern.
