Does anyone have experience of having this done? Surely the internal surfaces (those that cannot be painted with Glyptal) will rust away like crazy?

Don't overthink things.

Nothing to stop you painting the interior with glyptol after the acid dip

I doubt if there was Glyptol inside the water ways so rusting would be the as from new, anybody know?

No : the glyptol on the block interior was to promote draining of the splash oil down the sides of the block

Have done a few acid dips before rebuild and nothing in the way of extra rust. Just really clean iron and improved cooling from better heat transfer.

Just remembered the shop I use does some sort of phosphate final rinse which helps.

Thanks everybody for the feedback, very reassuring to know it doesn't cause a problem. I guess modern anti-freeze and/ or the factory standard 2 jars of Barrs Leaks also helps keep rusting at bay.

Any recommendations for companies that can do an acid dip in the South?

Hi mark.. I used Gosnays engineering a proper engineering company been around forever.. you’ll find their services advertised and mentioned in jag books going back 40+ years..
They offer 2 services for cleaning blocks, one I used is it goes in a tank for a week full of hot cleaning goodies, comes out like new. For what it’s worth I used them for all the crank work and boring of the block, they can even line hone your mains which not many companies can do.
Done a few engines for me now, work has always been excellent.
Use Rob Beere for your head work, he needs no introduction from me on this forum how good his work is..
