#1 Series 2 engine mountings
Need to replace my engine mountings after only 5 years and about 3000 miles. I forget which type I bought last time but clearly they have not lasted.
I would be grateful for any recommendations
Thank you
Simon

Floating this to the top again, Andrew - that link leads seems to lead to a page with ALL the SNGB engine mountings apparently, rather than one in particular.
Which specific one do you recommend please ?
The uprated at £37.03 a pop, Gasp, C18556U ?

#5 Re: Series 2 engine mountings
I’ve just replaced my mounts after those in place failed after a very short time.
I also used the uprated, steel capped, ones from SNG.
Side by side they are significantly larger the the rubbish I took out. Raising the engine as far as possible to get them in. They do appear robust.

Sorry Rory didn't see this a year ago.
Yes I use the uprated ones.
Bear in mind that these are all almost certainly just generic anti vibration mounts that happen to be the right size. The cheap ones are probably completely unsuitable for the task. The steel capped ones do seem to stand the test of time.
And yes they're metric too, so make sure you get the bolts as well.

As per my other post SNG now include the bolts ( that’s good of them @£35 each ! )

#8 Re: Series 1 and Series 2 engine mountings
Some details about the C1855CU "uprated" ones - which incidentally are also Series 1 compatible.

They are indeed generic ones that are considered "close enough" to be sold to Jaguar owners, but selling them relies - as is now customary - on their ingenuity and dexterity To Make Them Fit.

If the Usuals were sufficiently forthright to warn prospective purchasers then I would think this was OK.
But flogging them as "Uprated" replacement parts, full stop, and at a Premium, is pretty dishonest.
1. They won't take the original 3/8 UNF bolts, as they're designed for 8mm fixings.
2. The centre-to-centre of the holes - which are oval - is not even the same as the originals.

3. Fitted, they overhang the engine-mounting supports.
It's fine, 5-minutes of clever work with a file will make them fit.

But it leaves a nasty taste in the mouth, and to pretend anything else would require an empathy up there with the Stockholm Syndrome.

Hi Rory...i see you have fitted large washers under the head of the bolts holding the mount to the frame....take care that this dosnt cause metat to metal contact of the two halfs of the moung when your engine is mounted.....Steve

#10 Re: Series 2 engine mountings
Interesting point.
You really have to use a washer there as the oval (and filed) hole is a way-less satisfactory seating than with the original rubber support.

I reckon there's probably 3mm vertical separation, to use up first, before contact, when the horizontal separation is then on the limit of being zero.

So you could grind a couple of flats on either side of the steel cone and all would be fine.
This takes us still further away from the "Upgrade" we're being sold, mind.

#11 Re: Series 2 engine mountings
Hi Rory....its common knowledge on Jag forums that the best fitting parts are Jaguar original....even then you may have to fettel them to fit......if you go aftermarket or "upgraded" then you may have to modify or fettle the part to fit or work correctly.....it would be great if every part from every manufacturer fitted and worked first time...It isnt going to happen......just to add iv used Jaguar mounts..they fit and they work......Steve
