Folks, just to be sure I have done nothing wrong before I send tach out for repair,
series 1.5 input 12 volts from fuse box(white) output from tach (white) to dist + side (no resistor required
on this coil) The needle goes to 2500 rpm when ignition on, but output from tach is only 3 volts so
coil will not work, (too low voltage) reverse wires and no volt output from tach. no start.
took apart tach and all wires look not broken, this is not a needle problem, it is a voltage issue.
(tach has clock, green wire power is ok to clock only) Note: no generator on engine)
would an xj6 tach work? 70-76 ? do not care about rpm red line) thanks Mike.

I think if it is the same as series 1 and the tachometer is the same it won’t work on pulses and will require conversion to electronic.

Do you have standard points or an electronic unit in your distributor?... Steve

more info, the tach I have has two spade connectors at back, could this be a tach that should use the a/c generator at back of block??, remember this is a basket case car and not sure what year this tach is from,
I do not have the generator on my head, do not know what year head is or if it could be from an xj6,
do not know how to tell, I am sure block is from a 65 xke. that is all I am sure of. maybe my solution is
purchase an early series 1 xj6 tach that runs from + on coil. I tried to pull needle off of my tach to see if I can take apart and switch parts (to keep XKE face), if I pull harder will the needle head come off , I am afraid to pull too hard, any suggestions would be great. Thanks Mike./

Yes, that is the tacho from the earlier S1 car that uses the AC generator on the back of the camshaft.
