Hi guys.. after reading much on here about the 5 speed scenario, and all the different options, I was hoping someone could give me some feedback on the guy broadspeed box.
It looks like a pretty much swap out, got some tours planned in September and even though I run a 3.07 diff 2900 rpm at 70, for hundreds of miles i think it could really do with the 5th gear..
Any help gratefully received before I spend my money

I have this from Guy Broad, very happy with the conversion, a lot lower rpm@70 than the 3.07 you indicate. I had mine done by them so no direct experience in the diy side of things but plenty of info here about self install.

But good to hear you are pleased with it.

No experience with the Broad 'box, but I do have a T5 based conversion, which with my US spec 3.54 rear gives me an effective 2.58 in 5th. The reduced rpm over long drives really helps with my wife's mood, as well as fuel mileage. 20 years on from my conversion, I wouldn't have it any other way.

If you have choices of 5th gear ratio with the Broad option, you might want to stay in the .75 to 80 range, given your present 3.07 final drive. Going numerically lower could reduce the usefulness of the conversion in normal (legal) speed ranges.

interesting read.. has gt joey now finished the conversion of the broadspeed g/box, or is this waiting to be continued??

I believe he finished it year or so ago, and later sold the car. But perhaps if he is on here, he can confirm.

Hi Paul...if you look through the whole thread you will read that Joey completed the gearbox conversion and reported on how it drove..Steve

I have a gearbox from an early 80's Ford XR4ti and I believe is called the type 9. Looks nothing like the Broad 'box, and has an iron main case. The euro Sierra Cosworths used either the Iron case MT-75 or the T5, depending on year.

The Broad gearbox looks a lot like a BMW spec Getrag to me.
