Hi all. Restoring an S1 4.2 RHD FHC and have questions about the long storage area behind the seats - should this be covered in vinyl? Also, need to know the screw size for the cant rails, considering the need to avoid piercing through the fabric covering. Noticed 5 small pips (3mm dia., same length) on the lower cant rail edge - are these old fixing remains or part of the design? Appreciate any help, tackling a project started by someone else is quite the adventure!

Carla, welcome to the best place for all things E Type. Are you really in the US, as your flag shows?
It would help if you included a few photos to show the “long storage area” as you call it. Do you mean the area accessed from the rear hatch/door? As that is vinyl covered with bars along it as protectors or rubbing strips. Or do you mean the area in front of that but behind the seats? And the fold down section that drops down?
Leather was mainly (or only) used on seat facings with even the back of seats being covered in vinyl, certainly on later cars. So vinyl would be for the area you are looking at. If you are in the UK there are several suppliers of interior trim, eg BAS, Aldridge, etc. who have websites that show what goes where.

The storage area is lined with carpet at the bottom and the liftable door and front wall are in vinyl.



The cantrail screws are #4 self tappers 1/2" long.

If you go to sngbarratt.com they have a very comprehensive website where it is possible to find most parts.

That is true but I found it necessary to trim the tip off a couple of mine where they were threatening to pierce the vinyl.
