From the pictures here under of my 61 OTS water pump (behind the pulley), difficult to say if it was originally bare cast iron, or plated.

The metal looks to be cast iron.
I have seen restorations where the water pump was painted with POR 15. Would that be correct or not?

If the water pump is bare cast iron, it's likely a replacement part that was not painted before installation.

In the photos it looks as if your engine is Austin-Healey green?

No it's a colour artefact when reducing the size of the picture to the authorised 256 kB.
Actually that timing cover below the water pump is made of aluminium, I think.
