I have now stripped it and found the three diaphragm intact.

Hi Bryan,
See Mareks excellent reply (#6) in following link, it may help understand the technical side of operation:

I've had 2 new Electronic SU pumps fail in quick time, one straight out of the box would tick but pressure was poor. Mine were replaced under warranty, thankfully.

I have a third (and final) electronic SU pump fitted this winter, courtesy of SNGB. I'm hoping this one provides longevity. I carry a Facet as a spare, that has been faultless previously, and I also have a HARDI pump, thats a German SU equivalent, so I'm led to believe. I also have a fuel regulator than ensures no matter what pump is fitted, I maintain uniform pressure (2psi).
I'd be interested to hear what others carry as part of their spares in the boot etc? A second £££ SU maybe?

I have had good luck with the original pump.
