#1 Choke cable placement

Post by keithbrown » Fri Apr 04, 2025 11:43 am

Hi All,
I've been scratching my head quite a bit recently about the correct route of the choke cable on 1965 FHC.
So I correctly located the right hole where it goes through the bulkhead. But how it gets from the dash control to that hole seems a bit of a compromise. I found this picture from an old post (thank you rfs1957), which pretty much shows the same problem as I'm having, the route is right over the air vent ... which can't be right?

Yes, that looks correct apart from it should go under that tang that the wiring harness is held with. It creates a tight turn, but if the cables are in good condition it feels fine to operate.

I thought I recognised that car :-)) 🚗

It’s not a perfect solution on mine, as it stands, but I forgot to add it to the de-snagging list when I dismantled it completely in 2018 - and so just refitted the same cable, which was virtually new, when I rebuilt that area last year.

I think it just requires some tweaking of the length and the run, which is indeed tricky around the UJ.
