#1 Pedal box panel - Modification/Mystery

Post by Osgodd » Thu Apr 03, 2025 8:00 am

Hi All

Was wondering if anyone could shed any light on why someone in the 70's might of thought they needed to destroy the top of the pedal box panel in this way, (using garden shears?) my intention is to restore it back to original, but before I do, I would like to know if this was some sort of 70's upgrade? and maybe i need to restore it back differently?

for context:-
1964 series 1 uk FHC
dismantled in the early 80's.......... and re-discovered in the present, all parts seem present, but body tub is in a bad way, hence question above.

mnay thanks

james

They probably did it because they were struggling to get the pedal box back in with the engine and carburettors in place. There are butchers everywhere. Makes you wonder what else they have 'repaired'.

There are some very nasty stick welding repairs to this tub. I should put some photos up of what not to do. 🤣

So. I think I have figured this out. I have found a very neat up plate that goes over this mess and has a S2 pedal box attached to it.

So question.

Do I repair back to series 1 and S1 pedal box etc
Or do continue on and convert this properly to a S2 pedal box.

You state that you have all the parts so I can see no reason why you would not repair it to proper s1 specs. The metal repair looks very straight forward so why not do it right? You will be glad you did.

Not sure a small patch panel is available for this area but I would keep it to original spec and do it right first time. You may regret it otherwise once built up. Good luck finding that smaller top panel.
