#1 Question about dash fuel gauge for a XK140...!

Post by Polse7317 » Wed Apr 23, 2025 2:21 pm

Sorry to be out of Etype but may be someone can help here...!
I am trying to refurbish a fuel gauge for my XK140 and have on the bench a used, no, very used! one coming from a 150.
When it is opened it's what you see on the photo.

My problem is to test this one so i could adjust it....!
I thought to connect + to D post , - to C post and increase the current from 0 to 10 volts and see....
I did that and saw only a little moove of the needle whatever the electrical current.
But i adjusted the 2 coils A and B on the marks i saw at the rear of the casing which was dirty so i could see their ante location! i tried also to modify the location of the 2 coils A B without succes!
Can some one tell me what current must be tested on the posts C D ? it 'll be a great help.

This may help: Smiths Instruments Care Guide: https://www.dropbox.com/s/z3uiku3y7uksa ... e.pdf?dl=1

I think you have to test/adjust it in combination with the tank sender.

Hi Yves....I think you adjust the guage by loosening the 2 nuts on the rear so you can move the magnets in/out.. but have a look here https://forums.jag-lovers.com/t/xk-140- ... ing/370213
