#1 Floorwell Carpet Retention Using Rubber Wellnuts

Here's a suggestion for foot-well carpet retention.

My carpets are thicker than the originals by dint of having a 3mm EPDM layer in the foot-well, against the shell, as seen here.

The carpet studs - seen to the right in the picture below - that trimmers BAS in Wales use (and sell) work - just about - with the original carpets, with the plastic socket that pushes into the panel, and the plastic plug that traverses the carpet to locate within it, although none of it is really satisfactory to my mind.

The floor-carpets take some stick in shear, when entering and exiting, and this system certainly doesn't work when you're thicker than standard - the plugs pop out.

My method is obviously not original, but it looks plausible, and might conceivably be made even more credible if you opted for shiny-polished versions, given Jaguars' propensity for little cheap Bling touches.

I used Pro-Bolt alloy motorcycle fairing buttons, 22mm in diameter, they come in all colours and take a CSK screw - and the natural silver would polish up nicely if you wanted a William Lyons glint in the footwell.

You can find them here.

The fixing itself requires the use of "Wellnuts", which are a brass nut embedded in a shouldered rubber sleeve - a sort of removable rubber Rivnut.

I used M6 ones 13mm long - there are various lengths available.

You can find them on the Internet, https://www.ebay.fr/itm/171865395553

or get them from a Ducati dealer - 0364.99.020 - replaced by 8504.11.21A - as there was a period when they were everywhere on the bikes.

They have a suitable crushability about them which is great for applying a rather "soggy" clamping to our soft-furnishings.

You need a 12 to 12.50 mm hole in the floor, deburred, and it helps when fitting them to grease the tip, and push them in from above using a long M6 bolt screwed into the nut as a pusher.

I will eventually use slotted-heads everywhere, I was one short hence the Allen one, they need to be 25-30mm long according to carpet thickness.
