#1 Replacement hood including frame

Post by Neil Revill » Mon May 05, 2025 12:06 pm

Dear All, I am based in the UK. I have an EType Mk3 (1972) which has a hard top but it does not have a soft top hood. Would anyone be so kind as to recommend a supplier who can supply a mohair hood and frame?

Welcome to the forum Neil.

There are quite a few, but BAS in Cardiff are one of the best.

Also, car hood providers will only supply or fit their hood to an existing frame - you’ll need to buy a new frame from somewhere. Again, quite a few suppliers but SNG Barrett is a good place to start.

You say ‘supply’, are you fitting it all yourself?

Hi Simon, I can thoroughly recommend BAS in wales, you can buy their kit (mohair) very reasonable and Jack will supply you instructions on fitting it. Trust me it’s fool proof and looks fantastic, 2 days work tops.
I too bought an OTS with only a hardtop, had to source everything, try and get a decent original frame, s1 or s2 they both fit, mines a s1 on a s2 car. Chrome is expensive.
I’ve heard mixed reports about the robey ones and they are not made in house. Currently there are 2 for sale on eBay at a reasonable price.
Good luck .
Previously...S1 OTS E type (sold)
S1 2+2 manual. (Sold)
S2 rhd OTS full resto finished 8/23
S1 3.8 coupe (full restoration now sold)

If it’s a series 3 then I believe the frame differs from series 1&2.
Again I would recommend a genuine frame -not reproduction . Too many comments regarding poor fit.

I had my original frame stripped and repainted ( dove grey) and paid a local trimmer to fit the Aldridge supplied hood.
Despite him saying that he had done e types before he made a hash of the job. So as others have said use a recognised trim shop and visit beforehand.
Series 1 FHC purchased 50 years ago. Courted my wife in it.
Series 1 2+2 when the kids were small now sold.
Series 1.5 OTS in opalescent maroon, Californian car. My retirement present.

Another vote for Aldridge. I've used several of their kits and they can fit it for you too.

Oooops, indeed a s1/s2 frame will not fit a s3, sorry I should have read the question more carefully ! :banghead:
