I've got a Chinese distributor, mine came from Simon BBC. It works fine and gave me my first chance to add a distributor with vacuum advance.
I keep it in the car as a spare.
I suggest you source a secondhand Lucas constant energy distributor and coil from a Series 3 XJ6 or move to a 123 or similar as Steve suggests for your main distributor.

I ended up buying one and testing it on a bench at ambiant temperature 27°C with a stock coil and 13,2 volt battery on charging.
- 6 hours simulated engine at 5500 rpm: coil temperature 45°C, module temperature 30°C
- 6 hours simulated engine at 800 rpm idle: coil temperature 52°C, ignition module temperature 38°C (normal! It's at idle that it pulls the most).
Interesting: The module interrupts the coil power if the engine isn't running, even if the magnets are facing the sensor, so there's no risk of burning out the coil.
Testing on a real engine has been postponed until I find an original 3.8L distributor to convert... if anyone has a source :-)
Anyway, it works!
