The 'E' Type Forum

Now that I’m coming to an end with my S3 ots body refurb I’m thinking about random stuff , amongst which is the concept of some form of passenger roll over protection.
Has anyone experience of such or any opinions about the concept?
I think I know where to make the mountings, but do I go for 2 short hoop, or 1 wide hoop design?
Any pictures anyone?
To go with this is also the strength of the windscreen frame which I know is not very good…problem???!!

That's just bird poo protection. In a rollover, your helmet has just become the"crumple zone."

For effective roll over protection have a look at Bob Tulius' car for mounting points. It's in the Gaydon museum.

I’ve no idea of how it works or how it could be done but the automatic rollover hoops that sit behind the seats in such cars as the BMW Z4 could be interesting.

I really dont think that an E type is the type of car you should be driving if your concerned about it rolling over...unless your a race car and/or the safety has been fully built into the structure....Steve

If you're worried about safety, buy a Volvo C70 cabriolet.

Steve I've been in a no fault rollover in a TR6 it's no fun and we were trapped for 40 mins due to the land we landed on.all at about 20mph. We could have been better off I suppose if we weren't wearing a seat belt do you think!!.thrown out sideways.
Any help in that situation I see as a benefit. I'm trying a damage limitation exercise whilst trying not to compromise the aesthetics. As you don't see any threat I wish you smooth driving especially if your in an OTS.
