#1 A question on Series 2 seats?

Post by richard btype » Sat Aug 23, 2025 8:55 am

I'm presently restoring a 1965 series 1 FHC, mostly for European travel. My question is about the seats - whether those for the series 2 or indeed the V12 are a straight fit including the runners? Also whether they recline? Main reason being to have the comfort of recline adjustment and the safety of the head rest? Thx in advance

Have you thought about the MX5 seats...I know nothing about useing them other than many here have and they will probably be cheaper than S2/S3 seats...Steve

The MX5 Mk1 NA seats (the ones with separate/removable headrests)are superb. Fosseway sell the conversion brackets and the seats are relatively cheap on eBay, although becoming rarer.

Thax (and to Heuer) for the MX5 suggestion. I did manage to pick up a pair of these a few years back (and useful info on the Fosseway bracket). I have however been mulling over keeping it 'Jaguar'...

If you get the MX5 seats re-trimmed as per the S1 pattern they look great, are comfortable and fully adjustable as per your requirements. The head rests look in keeping too, the way they should have been originally! I also used the Fosseway brackets, ££ but little option unless you fabricate your own. Here’s some pics from Moss Jaguar, I didn’t purchase from them, (they didn’t reply to email), and no affiliation, but these look same as mine but cheaper through UK trimmer if you have the seats already to go.

I bought MX-5 series 1 (NA) seats off ebay and I bought the correct leather and vinyl from BAS for my seats. I took them to: https://www.auto-trim.co.uk/ for re-trimming which cost only £200 per seat + the dreaded. That was 7 years ago tho, so likely more now. I was not sufficiently careful with the amount of "perforated" leather so my squabs are not the best, but the seats are great.

If you think the Jag S2 seat head rests are any good, look at the way they are mounted in the frame - just passing through the seat top tube. Likely they would be neck breakers if you are shunted up the back - IMHO.
