#1 Choke cable replacement

Post by 44DHR » Wed Oct 15, 2025 2:30 pm

I am helping a friend with a RHD Series 1 4.2 FHC 2+2 and it appears the solid Choke cable has broken at the Choke lever end inside the car.
I have removed the parcel shelf under the steering wheel, plus a piece of plastic trim so I can see up to the Choke lever mechanism using my phone in video mode. There is control knob for the under dash air flaps directly under the Choke lever, so access looks very limited.
I am assuming I need to remove the tachometer to enable access to the clamping fixings for the inner and outer cables. If anyone could confirm that this will make the job much easier please ?
Cheers,
Dave

Dave. I agree with Steve, remove rev counter and dash top and access is very good.

I recently had to adjust the choke light switch because the light would not stay off. Did it by adjusting the cable at the switch as the switch was fully engaged on the mount.

NO need to remove the dash top, just remove the tacho.
